UK is reforming its immigration system

A reform is being discussed in the UK according to which the government intends to change the conditions of immigration and asylum in the country. At the same time, the main goal that is being pursued is the possibility of sending illegal immigrants to processing centers. According to the plan, such institutions should be located not on the mainland, but on the islands or in third countries. The Isle of Man, Gibraltar and more are being considered.

What additional conditions does the reform provide?

The reform is not limited to some aspects that only concern illegal immigrants. It also provides the following changes:

• Increased punishment for those who smuggle migrants. Life imprisonment is the planned sentence.
• Strengthening the verification of data on illegal immigrants. It is necessary to obtain more complete and reliable information about immigrants, since often adults trying to cross the border pretend to be minors in order to avoid serious punishment.

Immigration centers will serve an additional purpose, since they might eliminate the need to house migrants in hotels.

UK Immigration Conditions

Since January 2021, a new program has been launched in the country, allowing residents of other countries to enter the UK. Its adoption was a consequence of Brexit - Britain's exit from the EU. Now those who want to immigrate to the country will have to score 70 points on various criteria. There are 9 of them in total, but 3 mandatory ones are highlighted. It is based on them that the final result will be announced.

The list of key indicators includes the following:

• Availability of an official invitation to work. It is important that the employing company is real, as all provided data is carefully checked. If this condition is met, one can get 20 points.
• Confirmation of qualifications according to the invitation provided. This means that a person who comes to work must have confirmation of his suitability for work - certificates, licenses, etc. It is important that they clearly correspond to the field of activity specified in the invitation. If the condition is met, 20 points are awarded.
• Knowledge of English - it must be confirmed with an appropriate certificate. If you have such a certificate then you can get 10 points.

After that, the level of expected wages, the position for which the immigrant is accepted, etc. will be assessed. Separate quotas are provided for seasonal work.

It is too early to say how quickly the new reform will be adopted and what its result will be. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of theUK is discussing all possible conditions and plans to publish the finished project in the near future.
