The best new building of 2006 at the annual review, organized by the Latvian Builders Association (Latvijas Būvnieku asociācija (LBA)), was recognized as the residential complex “Viesturdārza mājas” in Riga at 21 Rupnetsibas Street.

The Viesturdārza mājas project was implemented by the construction company Merks and designed by two architectural firms: Arkkitehtitoimisto KVA Oy (Finland) and Arho (Latvia). The aim of such a project was the construction of a residential complex of 4 buildings with an underground parking lot, which could visually enclose the territory of the park and fill the "void" in the surrounding complex of buildings. In the summer of 2006, the "Viestura mājas" complex was put into operation. When designing this complex, the specialists tried to ensure good passability of daylight into the premises, and also took care of a pleasant view of the Viesturdārzs park from the glazed balconies. In addition, for each apartment (there are 96 apartments in the complex, each with a size of 60 to 160m2) there is an underground parking space and a closed storage room.

One of the factors contributing to the success of this project at the LBA show was the interior design of the complex, which is distinguished by the harmony of structural elements and their functionality.
