Metaxourgio - a traditional neighborhood located in the north-west of Athens' historic center. The area was designed by the architect Chr. Hansen. Its name came by itself - once there was a factory of silk fabrics Metaxa, who worked until 1875. Despite the fact that the building is conserved more than a century, the name factory locals still call this part of town. Over time, the name was registered officially Metaxourgio. The most famous streets of the area - and Ahileos Giatrakos. The first divides the area into two parts - the old, in the direction of Piraeus street, and the new, in the direction of the street Lenormand. The new part has lost its original style of the reconstruction, and the old part still keeps samples of their ancient architecture. There are plenty of small cafes and restaurants that offer traditional oriental drinks, pastries, and food.

Many hotels are located in Athens Larisa Station, around the area of Metaxourgio Karaiskaki square.
