Over the past five months, there has been a sharp increase in the demand for citizenship of Montenegro among Russian citizens. For Russian investors, a great advantage is the ability to immediately obtain a local passport without obtaining a residence permit. For example, 16% more Russian residents wanted to obtain citizenship of Montenegro in May than in April. If we compare the indicators for the year, then the demand has grown by 40%.
Citing more detailed statistics, we can note the following data:
We can also say that the number of applications for obtaining citizenship of Montenegro in 5 months of this year turned out to be 3 times more than in the same period a year earlier.
Reasons for the increase in demand
Experts believe that Russians wish to obtain citizenship of Montenegro because of how quick the process is. This can often be done in less than six months. Compared to EU countries, this is a fairly short period.
Another reason is the low cost of obtaining citizenship. If a family of four wants to get a passport, it is enough for them to spend about 400 thousand euros, including the cost of buying real estate, which is the main condition for obtaining citizenship. But an even greater advantage is that after obtaining citizenship, real estate can be sold. The country does not require a specific period during which a resident of another country must own a residential or commercial property. To date, no European country provides such conditions.
