Booking hotel rooms in Qatar is an easy process. Right now one can choose one of the options in more than 40 hotels in this country. But initially, Qatari government feared that there won’t be enough places for soccer fans to stay at. So what happened?
First reason – pressure from top FIFA officials. Before the start of the world championship they asked the government of the host country to increase the number of hotel rooms. And the government did just that. But now fans are offered a sort of "camping in the desert". That is living in a full-fledged desert in tents, equipped with electricity and other benefits.
The second reason is more obvious – local hotel owners. Before the start of the world championship, they raised the prices for the rooms. And not just once, but several times compared to what they promised even six months before the World Cup. For this reason many tourists refused to book hotels in the capital of Qatar (it is here that most of the matches take place). Few people wanted to pay 2.5 thousand dollars per night in a hotel, so they chose to live in other cities and decided to come to Doha only for matches.
